11 tornadoes reported Thursday around western Kansas

? The National Weather Service says 11 tornadoes were reported in western Kansas, causing minor damage but no major injuries.

The weather service says one of the tornadoes hit a farm four miles south of Scott City Thursday evening, damaging a barn and destroying grain bins.

Another tornado that witnesses said was a mile wide landed east of Kendall in Kearny County, and spotters said another touched down near Friend in Finney County. Baseball-sized hail also was reported near Lakin, in Kearny County.

Scattered reports also came in of windows broken, damage to barns and roofs and power outages. Street flooding was reported in Healy, where Lane County authorities said 4 feet of water covered some roads Thursday night.

The severe weather was expected to push east — closer to Lawrence — Friday afternoon. In addition to southern Nebraksa, northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, there was expected to be an outbreak of severe weather in an area covering Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
