Waters’ homers spark KU baseball

? Kansas University left fielder Jimmy Waters hit two home runs and drove in four runs, and freshman Tanner Poppe allowed just a run on four hits over six innings for his first Big 12 win as the Jayhawks beat Nebraska, 6-1, Sunday.

It was KU’s first series victory at at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park and first in Lincoln, Neb., since 1996.

Poppe, a right-handed freshman, had two walks and no strikeouts. He retired eight men via fly-outs and induced three inning-ending double plays.

Nebraska’s only run came on a sacrifice fly in the sixth by Adam Bailey. Bailey, the league’s home run leader, went 1-for-13 against Kansas pitching on the weekend.

The Huskers fell to 18-18 and 5-10 in conference play.
