• A “Fencing Day” is planned from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Rodeo Arena at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2100 Harper St. The event, sponsored by Douglas County Livestock Association and K-State Research and Extension Douglas County, will include presenters, equipment and demonstrations.

• The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 27 at Curves, 601 Kasold, Suite B 102.

• Sue Nanninga has been promoted to master stylist at JCPenney Styling Salon, 3311 Iowa. Nanninga has been with the salon for more than five years and has worked in other Lawrence salons, including Hair Lords and European Tanning and Hair Salon.

• The following area residents have become independent consultants with Tastefully Simple Inc., a national direct sales company featuring easy-to-prepare foods: Stephanie Tatley of De Soto; Maria Estelle of Eudora; Kyra Rouser and Heidi Fowler, both of Lawrence; and April Penny of Lecompton.

• Affinitas Corp. has been named a Top 50 Teleservices Agency by Customer Interaction Solutions magazine. Affinitas is headquartered in Omaha, Neb., and provides call center support to several Fortune 500 clients through facilities in Lawrence; Mesa, Ariz.; and Lawton, Okla., as well as through a sister company in Córdoba, Argentina.

• Rianna Melton earned an associate degree in 2009 and passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination state qualifying examinations in March 2010 to become a credentialed veterinary technician. Melton has been employed with Lawrence Veterinary Hospital since July 2009.

• A “Horse Owners Workshop,” sponsored by Purina Mills, Better Horses Network, and K-State Research and Extension Douglas County, will be Tuesday at the Community Building indoor arena at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1930 Harper St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The program will begin at 6:45 p.m. Reservations must be received by Monday, 843-7058 or bdwood@ksu.edu.

• Leavenworth Jefferson Electric Cooperative will host its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the McLouth High School Theater Auditorium. The meeting includes the election of three board members, a 2009 review of cooperative business, and information regarding the recently approved rate changes.
