Chestnut delivers State of the City address

Outgoing Lawrence Mayor Rob Chestnut delivered the annual State of the City address from City Hall Tuesday night.

He highlighted the city’s success in adding new spaces, like the bioscience incubator at KU and the Farmland plant, that will make it easier for business and industry to locate in Lawrence.

He also highlighted the effort to bring the Lawrence police and fire departments to full staffing and highlighted the city’s successful efforts to balance the budget despite difficult economic times.

In the year ahead, as a member of the City Commission, Chestnut expects to work on identifying a funding source for sidewalk repairs and to work with the owners of the Bowersock Dam on expanding the power plant’s ability to produce sustainable energy.
