100 years ago: Local business looking to move

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 8, 1910: “Lawrence must do everything possible to keep the Bell Brothers music business here. They are getting promises to move to many other cities and they are so valuable there must be local retention. These people are experts in piano building and repair and they cannot be allowed to leave. Every effort should be made to find them a site for their expanding business. Current locations are outgrown. … Chancellor Frank Strong is campaigning to bring the Kansas-Missouri football game to the campuses after some of the disturbances at the game in Kansas City the past Thanksgiving. ‘Having games in a large city is a danger to the students,’ the chancellor says, ‘and the game should be played at the schools.'”
