From the Lawrence Daily World for April 6, 1910: “Fifty or more men are at work stringing wire, ballasting track and bonding and bolting rails making ready for the first street car to run up Mount Oread. Officials of the Lawrence Railway and Light Co. say the first car will go up ‘the hill’’ next Sunday and they expect huge crowds of passengers for the event. … The chancellor declared today that American football will not be abolished as some rugby fans want to do, in favor of rugby. KU will continue to meet its usual football opponents and take part in Missouri Valley Conference play.”
