Kansas University senior Sherron Collins on Thursday was named to the 10-player John R. Wooden Award All-America team.

Others on the team: James Anderson, Oklahoma State; Da’Sean Butler, West Virginia; DeMarcus Cousins, Kentucky; Wesley Johnson, Syracuse; Scottie Reynolds, Villanova; Jon Scheyer, Duke; Evan Turner, Ohio State; Greivis Vasquez of Maryland and John Wall of Kentucky.

The top five vote-getters will attend a banquet April 9 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club where the Wooden Award winner will be announced.

Collins is the first Jayhawk to be named Wooden All-America since Brandon Rush (2007, 2008). KU’s last Wooden Award finalist was Wayne Simien (2005). KU assistant coach Danny Manning won the Wooden Award in 1988.

“There are a lot of great players in college basketball and to be named to this team is a great honor,” Collins said Thursday. “I have to give credit to my teammates and coaches. Without them there is no way I would have done this. We had a great season that ended on a sour note, but I am very proud of our accomplishments.”

No three-point contest for Collins

Because of a scheduling conflict, Collins withdrew from the Final Four’s three-point shooting contest Thursday in Indianapolis. He is one of four finalists for the Naismith Award, which will presented in a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, in Indy. Other finalists: Evan Turner, John Wall and Wesley Johnson.

Vasquez wins Cousy

Maryland senior Greivis Vasquez was named Bob Cousy Award winner Thursday, which is presented to the country’s top point guard. Other finalists: Collins, Scheyer, Turner, Reynolds and Wall.

April Fools

Josh Selby had the attention of many college basketball fans on Thursday morning when he posted on his Twitter account that he’d be “making my commitment in one hour, stay tune!”

Of course it was only an April Fool’s joke.

Selby, 6-2 from Baltimore’s Lake Clifton High, will announce for either KU, Kentucky, Arizona, UConn or Tennessee at halftime of the Jordan Classic all-star game on April 17 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

“Sorry had to get y’all,” was Selby’s second Twitter post regarding his prank.

Selby told Rivals.com’s Jerry Meyer that he’s looking for, “a team who pushes the ball but also plays halfcourt offense and a coach who can develop me on and off the court and mature me, teach me things not to do and get me to the next level.”

He said he figures to finalize his choice by April 14, then announce three days later.

Dooley to be interviewed

KU assistant coach Joe Dooley been contacted by UNC Charlotte officials regarding the 49ers’ head coaching position and is expected to be interviewed at the Final Four, the Charlotte Observer reports. Other possible candidates: Florida State associate head coach Stan Jones and Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins.

Jackson service Saturday

Memorial service for Shawn Denise Jackson, mother of former KU player Darnell Jackson, will be 1 p.m., Saturday, at Rolfe Memorial Chapel in Rolfe Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, according to the funeral home’s Web site. It was earlier reported the service would be at 3 p.m.
