Public input solicited on depot renovation

Area residents will have a chance to provide input on how the city should proceed with a project to improve the Burlington Northern Santa Fe depot in east Lawrence.

The city will host a meeting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday to discuss how the 1950s-era building may be rehabilitated. The meeting will be at the depot, 413 E. Seventh St.

The city is in the process of negotiating a low-cost purchase of the building from the railroad, but following the purchase several repairs to the structure will need to be made.

The Lawrence-based architectural firm of Hernly Associates has been hired to study the building. Representatives from Hernly Associates will be at the meeting to receive comments.
