Early returns show successful year for state fair

? Kansas State Fair officials say they believe this year’s fair was a financial success.

Fair General Manager Danny Stoecklin said the fair, which ended a 10-day run on Sunday, could come close to or set a record in gross ticket sales.

Admission ticket sales at the gates were up $139,631 through the first nine days of the fair, compared with the same time in last year’s fair. Total sales figures, including advance sales, will be tabulated later.

Stoecklein said the fair’s success was partly because of the nearly perfect weather.

Figures also showed that bands such as Heart and Montgomery Gentry also drew in thousands of fans.
