The Douglas County Commission indicated it would call a special election in late November or early December on a $3.5 million bond issue to finance construction of a joint city-county judicial and law enforcement center.

Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Chalmers,the new chancellor and first lady for Kansas University, were to head the Jayhawk delegation to Lubbock for KU’s opening football game, against Texas Tech. The last KU visit to Lubbock, in 1965, had resulted in a 26-7 defeat in a rainswept game that had to be shortened because of tornado warnings and watery deluges.
