Baker University will tangle with a familiar football nemesis today. Meanwhile, Haskell Indian Nations University will meet an unfamiliar foe.

MidAmerica Nazarene, a school Baker hasn’t defeated in a decade, will be in Baldwin City for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Liston Stadium. The Pioneers, ranked No. 8 in this week’s NAIA poll, have won nine straight from the Wildcats, including last year’s 42-41 double-overtime thriller in Olathe.

Baker is ranked No. 12 after opening with a 34-14 loss to Missouri Valley last week in Marshall, Mo. The Vikings are No. 16 in this week’s NAIA poll.

BU will be trying to generate more offense than it did against the Vikings. Senior running back Richie Bryant, who led the country last year with 14.0 points per game and was ninth in rushing (111.3 ypg), gained just 23 yards on 10 carries.

MANU opened with a 56-13 victory over Avila College behind a 139-yard rushing performance from Ashford Johnson.

Unranked Haskell will battle Rhodes College in a first-time meeting at 1 p.m. today at Haskell Stadium. The Fightin’ Indians will be trying to bounce back from a 61-6 thumping from McPherson College last week after opening with a 53-12 romp over Trinity Bible College two weeks ago.

HINU’s lone score last Saturday came on an eight-yard fourth-quarter pass from quarterback Ryan Alden to wide receiver Tim Keeton, who finished with eight catches for 99 yards.

Alden finished the game 22-of-49 for 184 yards and an interception.

Rhodes, located in Memphis, Tenn., is 1-0 after a 26-14 victory over Westminster College last Saturday.
