Veritas at home; Seabury on road

Decisive winners in their season openers, Lawrence’s two eight-man football teams figure to face stronger competition tonight.

Veritas Christian, coming off an 86-48 road romp over Flint Hills Christian, will make its home debut tonight against Kansas City East Christian. Game time will be 7 p.m. at the Eagles’ field on 1000 Road behind First Church of the Nazarene.

The Veritas facility, opened in 2007, has been upgraded with the addition of a 2,000-square-foot building that houses locker facilities, rest rooms and a press box. Veritas and the Kansas City school haven’t met since the 2004 season, when the Eagles posted a 58-12 victory.

Seabury Academy will hope to build off the momentum of last week’s 62-40 victory over Kansas School for the Deaf when the Seahawks travel to Topeka to meet Cair Paravel Latin School. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Wichita Word of Life thumped Cair Paravel, 76-26, last week.

Friday, Veritas and Seabury will tangle in an intracity showdown at the Eagles’ field.
