Kansas National Guard hosting search and rescue training conference

? A three-day conference on search and rescue techniques is under way at the Great Plains Regional Training Center in Salina.

The event is taking place at Kansas National Guard facilities, with hands-on instruction to local search and rescue teams. The adjutant general’s office says it’s aimed at people with backgrounds in structural collapse, trench collapse, confined space and water rescue teams.

Distributors of rescue gear and equipment are also taking part.

Kansas has built a training center known as “Crisis City” near Salina where teams can practice in a variety of rescue situations, including rubble piles, train derailments and chemical spills.
