Austin, Texas — Colt McCoy passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns and Texas romped past Louisiana-Monroe.

Last season’s runner-up for the Heisman Trophy connected with Jordan Shipley for a 78-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. Cody Johnson scored Texas’ first three touchdowns on short runs and freshman D.J. Monroe returned a kickoff 89 yards for a TD.

No. 9 Oklahoma St. 24, No. 13 Georgia 10

Stillwater, Okla. — Zac Robinson threw two touchdown passes to star receiver Dez Bryant and also scored on a quarterback sneak as Oklahoma State proved itself deserving of its highest preseason ranking ever.

The Cowboys capitalized on a fourth-quarter fumble by new Georgia starting quarterback Joe Cox to seal the season-opening win on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Bryant. Robinson finished with 135 yards passing, and Bryant made the most of his three catches for 77 yards.

No. 24 Nebraska 49, Florida Atlantic 3

Lincoln, Neb. — Roy Helu Jr. ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns and Zac Lee passed for 213 yards and two scores in his first start.

Nebraska won its 24th consecutive opener, the longest streak in the nation.

Lee threw touchdown passes of 28 yards to Menelik Holt and 49 yards to Curenski Gilleylen. Helu went over 100 yards for the fourth time in six games.

Baylor 24, Wake Forest 21

Winston-Salem, N.C. — Robert Griffin completed his first eight passes, finishing with 136 yards passing and a touchdown.

Kendall Wright ran for a TD, receiver Ernest Smith passed for a score and David Gettis caught one for Baylor.

Kansas St. 21, Massachusetts 17

Manhattan — Carson Coffman threw two touchdown passes to Attrail Snipes and Kansas State had a less-than-stellar start to the second Bill Snyder era.

Kansas State turned it over three times and allowed a blocked punt return for a score to fritter away most of an 18-point halftime lead.

Texas A&M 41, New Mexico 6

College Station, Texas — Jerrod Johnson threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score, Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael added TD runs and Texas A&M piled up 606 yards.

Texas Tech 38, North Dakota 13

Lubbock, Texas — Taylor Potts threw for two touchdowns and ran for two others for Texas Tech, which scored three of its five touchdowns on the ground, unusual for a team known for its pass-happy offense.

Potts, in his first start, got his rushing touchdowns on sneaks from 1 yard out.
