Blackhawk chopper lands in Tonganoxie

A Blackhawk helicopter landing Friday on Tonganoxie High School’s football field was the main attraction for Tonganoxie school district students and other spectators.

The helicopter, which Tonganoxie High School graduate Tim Brundage of the Kansas National Guard piloted, delivered a handful of Tonganoxie school district faculty to the school’s Beatty Field. A similar event took place Friday morning in Basehor.

The fly-in was part of Red Ribbon Week festivities for the school district. Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide event that promotes living healthy, drug-free lives.

During Friday’s program, students from all district schools filled the home seating section and lined the track in front of the stands.

The Tonganoxie VFW presented the colors, while the THS band and dance team performed at the event, which was open to the public.

High school students, as well as people who traveled to the program in the helicopter, spoke about the importance of people who have and are now serving in the U.S. armed forces and urged all students to live drug-free.
