KU women ranked No. 20 in preseason AP poll

Jayhawks pick up first national ranking in nine seasons

Kansas University women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson calls instructions during a group workout Wednesday in the new basketball practice facility. Henrickson has taken to posting team updates on Twitter.

The Kansas women’s basketball team is ranked No. 20 in the preseason Associated Press poll released Friday.

The Jayhawks last appeared in the national polls on Feb. 21, 2000.

“There’s a nice buzz surrounding our program,” Kansas head coach Bonnie Henrickson said in a release. “It’s a tribute to the kids we have returning in our program and the way we played down the stretch last season.”

The Jayhawks bring back four starters from last year’s 22-14 team. The last time a KU team was ranked in the AP preseason poll was 1999.

The Jayhawks are one of four Big 12 teams ranked in the AP preseason poll, joining Baylor (seventh), Texas (12th) and Oklahoma (13th).
