Woman enters plea in stepdaughter’s death

? A Wichita woman has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her stepdaughter.

Katie Cornejo, 28, originally had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Daytona Robertson, 2.

Prosecutors say the child went into a coma in February 2008 after being taken to a hospital with severe injuries. She died several days later.

A mistrial was declared during Cornejo’s trial in April after a Sedgwick County jury could not reach a verdict.

In court Tuesday, Cornejo entered an Alford plea, which means she didn’t admit guilt but accepted a sentencing deal offered by prosecutors. Cornejo will be sentenced Dec. 4.
