Lawrence High School Class of 1966 will host a fall mixer at 6 p.m. today at Johnny’s West, 721 Wakarusa. Class members and their friends are invited to the event.

Marjorie Black, Lawrence, will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Lawrence Visitor’s Center, 402 N. Second St. She requests no gifts.

Barbara and Ezra Ginzburg, Topeka, announce the birth of their son, Daniel Ariye Ginzburg, on Sept. 28, 2009, at Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka.

His maternal grandparents are Ronald and Dorothy Curnes, Lawrence; and his paternal grandparents are Francine Sutton, Overland Park, and the late Ariye Ginzburg.

Adrian Cade, Lawrence, has been selected to be a member of the Delta Epsilon Iota academic honor Society at Kansas University.

Cade is a 2008 graduate of Lawrence High School and the son of CW Cade and Mary Mitsui.

Paris Nottingham, Lawrence, was a top 10 finalist in trail with Ima Potential Leager, a 2002 Bay American Quarter Horse mare, at the Ford American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show July 31-Aug. 8 in Oklahoma City.

Erin Thimmesch of Lawrence served as a junior counselor from July 18-25 at the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation Program in Washington, D.C.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors Girls Nation to teach high school students how government and the political process work on the local, state and national level.

The young women participated in senate sessions caucusing and debating bills, campaigning to elect party officials and a president and vice president, meeting with their representatives on Capitol Hill and visiting national sites such as the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and the White House.

Kansas University recognized students and recent graduates studying art and design with more than $180,000 in awards or scholarships.

Receiving Dorris Fair Carey-Myrtle Fair Scholarships were Rose Kopf and Emma Burgess-Olson, both of Lawrence.

Kyleigh Garman, Baldwin City, earned the Charlotte and George Kreeck Memorial Art Scholarship and the Raymond and Elizabeth M. Goetz Scholarship.

Donna Geier Scholarships were awarded to Geoffrey Kunkler, Amy Lenharth and Julie Toplikar, all of Lawrence.

Clyde Bonebrake and Ward Lockwood Art Scholarships went to Clinton Ricketts and Matthew Weaver, both of Lawrence. Weaver also earned Students Helping Art Students.

Kenneth Morton, Ottawa, received the Hollander Family Foundation Scholarship.

Kieran McBride, Lawrence, has joined Teach For America, the national corps of top recent college graduates who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong advocates for educational equity.

McBride, a 2003 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2009 graduate of Kansas University, will teach in Kansas City, Mo.

Carol Lapka, Eudora, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baker College in Flint, Mich., after the completion of the summer quarter in August.

John Nolan, Basehor, earned a bachelor’s degree in management of sports industries from the University of New Haven on August 22.
