U.N. hope

To the editor:

United Nations Day, Oct. 24, and United Nations Week, which follows, should be celebrated by all peace-loving persons. The blue and white United Nations flag should be flown. Social studies classes should inform students about the important international role of the United Nations in promoting peace and solving world problems.

When President Barack Obama recently addressed the United Nations General Assembly, he spoke to delegates from almost 200 sovereign states — the town meeting of the world. In regard to the United Nations, Winston Churchill aptly pointed out that jaw-jaw is better than war-war.
