Story overkill

To the editor:

I have always admired the Journal-World for their outstanding journalism and accuracy, but I must say I’m very disappointed by the handling of the Brady Morningstar story. A couple of weeks ago the story was splashed on the front page and again, recently, going into detail about the police report and his alcohol level being twice the legal limit.

I believe the paper did an overkill. Brady made a giant mistake, and I think he realizes that and has apologized. I don’t take driving while intoxicated lightly and I think he has learned a valuable lesson. I just don’t think it was necessary to further insult and embarrass the Morningstar family. Although I don’t know the family personally I understand they are outstanding members of the Lawrence community and don’t believe they should be treated so poorly. I further think the Journal World reduced themselves to the level of a scandal rag tabloid like the Enquirer in this particular endeavor!
