The annual reunion for the descendants of George Michael and Caroline Wezstein Bahnmaier was Sept. 13 at Territorial Capital Museum in Lecompton. Those attending were Rex Armstrong, Joe and Neita Bahnmaier, Marge Schmitt, David and Gay Schneider, Debbie Shaw and Zane Shaw, and Beverly Van Dyke, all of Lawrence; Paul Bahnmaier, Melvin and VaNora Dark, Tyler Dark, Bonner Dark, Elsie Middleton and Darlene Paslay, all of Lecompton; Alan Shaw and Warren Shaw, Wakarusa; Duane and Dorothy Wulfkuhle, Overbrook; Arlene Bates and Ronne Bates, Oskaloosa; and Kathleen Schneider, Tecumseh. The next reunion will be Sept. 12, 2010, at Territorial Capital Museum in Lecompton.

The family of Daisy Thompson Haug will host a surprise 90th birthday party and dance on Oct. 28 at the Eagle’s Lodge, 1803 W. Sixth St. Please arrive by 5 p.m. The family requests no gifts.

ZGF Architects LLP, a nationally recognized architecture, planning and interior design firm, has selected Riggs Skepnek as the winner of its annual $10,000 architectural scholarship. Skepnek is pursuing a double master’s degree in landscape architecture and regional planning at the University of Pennsylvania. She will begin her final year of studies in the fall and plans to intern with the firm next year.

The annual ZGF Architectural Scholarship of the Oregon Community Foundation is awarded to an architecture student enrolled in the fifth year or master’s program of an accredited architectural program.

Skepnek is a 2001 graduate of Free State High School and the daughter of Bill and Susan Skepnek, Lawrence.

The alumni of Oread Training School/University High School will have a reunion today in the Kansas Memorial Union. A reception will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Pine Room, with a noon buffet luncheon in the Centennial Room.

The high school was used by the Kansas University School of Education students to gain practical teaching experience and was in operation from 1911 to 1950.

Lesley and Chad Clutchey, Olathe, announce the birth of their son, Carson Scott Clutchey, on Sept. 21, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Carson has a sister, Cameran Avey Clutchey, 1.

His maternal grandparents are Rick and Brenda Gammill, Lawrence; his paternal grandparents are Ed and Judy Clutchey, Topeka. His great-grandmother is Loveign Ostrander, Topeka.

The Lawrence High School varsity and junior-varsity cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camp from June 29 to July 2 at Emporia State University.

Among the awards earned were bids to Nationals, superior ratings, top team performance trophy, technical excellence certificate, spirit stick, All-American nominees, champion chant trophy, daily awards and team awards.

LHS varsity members are Chip Allen, Ashley Avery, Emily Ball, Whitney Demby, Marissa Eisnehour, Alexx Fuller, Mariah Henderson, Carissa Nott and Jasmine Sims, seniors; Ellie Berland, Jasmine Brown, Felicia Campfield, Marshall Rawley and Shelby Stanwix, juniors; and Taylor Eubanks, Kirstyn Florschutz, Wendybeth Hamm, Jaclyn Long, Mckenzie Olson and Kyleigh Turner, sophomores; and coach Shayla Jacob. Jessie Waller, a senior, is also a member, but didn’t attend.

LHS junior-varsity members are Samantha Arnold, Cami Ford and Alyssa Zaman, seniors; Tawney Carter, Lena Hosking, Ashton Isaacs, Jessica Sewing and Caitlyn Whitlock, juniors; Emily Martin and Alex Noller, sophomores; and coach Shannon Biggerstaff.

The Lawrence High School Pom Squad attended the National Dance Association (NDA) Dance Camp from June 16 to 19 at Emporia State.

Awards earned include a bid to the NDA National Dance Championship, award for technical excellence, superior rating, spirit stick, team leader circle of winners-bronze award for Haley Fischer, Meghan McBride and Hannah Stevens. All-American nominees include McBride, Stevens, Fischer and Nikki McGrew. Fischer was named All-American. All members received superior ribbons.

LHS pom squad members are Fischer, McBride and Stevens, seniors; Ty Aldridge, Bailey Bussinger, Emily Donnell, Sara King and McGrew, juniors; Libby Allen, MacKenzie Lomshek and Kaylee Wiggins, sophomores; and coach Marja Edwardson.

Christy and Dale Bourne, Eudora, announce the birth of their daughter, Kylie Lewis Bourne, on Oct. 8, 2009, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park.

Her maternal grandparents are Jon and Terry Paine, Overland Park; and her paternal grandparents are Steve and Claudia Bourne, Dodge City.

The Lawrence Accredited Music Teachers Association will present a student recital at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center. Students performing are Elizabeth Bergee, Ingrid Bruss, Jeffrey Chen, Jessica Chen, Anya Combs, Ava Cormaney, Delaney Dethloff, Samantha Dunham, Denis Gatotho, Ben Katz, Mason Kelso, Sophia LaPoint, John Loos, Sarah Mechem, Anna Patterson, Siel Snowden, Connor Thellman, Catherine Timkar, Jamie Ward, John Weiss, Amanda White and Ethan White. These students represent the piano studios of Carol Cook, Elaine de San Miguel, Janet Hart Johnson and Jung Spooner.

Molly and Gary Pratt, Eudora, announce the birth of their daughter Lucy Rose Pratt on Oct. 9, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center.

Lucy has a sister, Rachel, 5; and two brothers, Jonah, 3, and Henry, 1.

Her maternal grandparents are Walt and Martha Mersmann, Eudora; her paternal grandparents are Dennis and Rosemary Pratt, Ottawa. Her great-grandparents are Norbert and Margaret Grosdidier, Eudora.

Members of Free State High School cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) camp from July 11-14 at Fontbonne University; the pom squad attended the National Dance Association (NDA) camp from July 19 to July 22 at Lake of the Ozarks.

Cheer awards earned were chant champion, cheer champion, spirit stick, bid to Nationals and superior ratings. All-American nominees were Grace Brahler, Emma Groene, Bethany Cobbs, Lexi Gonzales, Cali Brasseur, Aly Frydman, Korie Reed. Members of the All-American team were Brahler, Gonzales, Reed and Frydman. Cali Brasseur was named top All-American, and Emma Groene earned a Leadership Award.

FSHS cheer squad members are senior captains Brahler and Groene, Frydman, Gonzales, Audrey Hughes, Natalie Johnston, Reed, Brasseur, Bethany Cobbs, Emily Risner, Kelsey Baska, Danielle Stringer, Kitty Tootle and Rhianna Davis. Coaches are Maya Rayton, Hillary Leiker and Paige Hofer, director.

Dance awards earned were silver in team dance, innovative choreography-home routine, all superior ratings, spirit stick and a bid to Nationals. Katie Reynolds and Janae Cooper earned showmanship ribbons. Mandy Dray and Mackenzie Pfortmiller were named Leadership Dance winners. All-American nominees were Mandy Dray, Mackenzie Pfortmiller, Gabi Griffin, Katie Reynolds and Jackie Soelter. Members of the All-American team were Pfortmiller, Soelter and Dray. Dray was also named top All-American and received an application to work for NDA.

FSHS pom squad members are seniors Dray, Pfortmiller, Griffin and Mackenzie Lown. Other squad members are Soelter, Taylor Pope, Reynolds, Cooper, Audrey Lamborn and Jordan McColm. Coaches are Amber Bradbury-Helvie and Paige Hofer, director. 

Family and friends of the late Clarence and Berta Lee Winston met Oct. 10 at First Baptist Church in Lawrence for the first annual Winston family reunion.

The event was hosted by their children, Glen and Gayle (Winston) Yancey of Topeka, and Johnson and Nancy (Winston) Shockley of Lawrence. Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of visiting, refreshments and viewed photos and memorabilia from past generations. Area families attending were Randy Shockley, Aaron Shockley and Mandy Meyer, all of Eudora; Andrew Haney, Lecompton; Will and Toni Shockley, Morgan Shockley, Devin Creek, Kevin Yancey, Albert and Nicole Neil, Casey Shockley, Freddie and Winona Marks, and Mark Marks, all of Lawrence. Other family members from outside the area also attended the event.
