Vanity? Please

To the editor:

Look who’s talking! George Will is accusing the Obamas of vanity (in his Oct. 7 column)? Come on!

I have read Mr. Will, always with interest and often with raised eyebrows, for many years, and I would hardly call him modest, humble, self-effacing or whatever word you care to use as the opposite of vain. It would take a better rhetorician than I am and more space than I have to describe adequately the way Mr. Will expresses his ideas. But I’m reasonably sure that most of your readers would prefer the president’s and the first lady’s verbal style to Mr. Will’s any day.
