911 recording system to receive upgrade

The city of Lawrence recently was awarded $67,600 to update its 911 recording system, federal government workers said.

The money is part of more than $25 million in grants to law enforcement agencies and community groups from the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch’s office said Friday.

In Lawrence, the money will be used to buy a 64-channel 911 recording system for Douglas County dispatchers, said Molly Haase, spokeswoman for U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.

“The new recording system will allow for review of all radio and phone traffic, more accurate responses to calls for service, statistical analysis, and retrieval of information for investigations,” Haase said.
