Freeport, Grand Bahama ? A day of rest could prove to be an advantage for Kansas University’s women’s basketball team today.

The Jayhawks, who bowed to No. 9-ranked Xavier, 76-71, on Thursday afternoon, will meet TCU in their Junkaroo Jam finale at noon in the Freeport YMCA gym.

TCU played late Friday morning in the three-day, two-game tournament, bowing to Minnesota, 61-56. So Kansas has the hypothetical edge in preparation, although KU coach Bonnie Henrickson is not so sure.

“It’s hard to tell,” Henrickson said. “We’ve had it both ways. It’s certainly not something we’re banking on.”

In the Horned Frogs, KU will be facing a team likely to rely heavily on the three-point goal. TCU (3-2) launched 25 treys against the Golden Gophers and made nine.

TCU also boasts a solid front line, led by 6-foot freshman Starr Crawford, who had a dozen boards against Minnesota. Crawford comes from the same suburban Dallas high school (Mansfield Summit) as KU senior guard LaChelda Jacobs.

The Fort Worth school outrebounded Minnesota, 41-40, and finished with eight blocked shots, but couldn’t overcome a turgid start. The Frogs missed 15 of their first 17 shots and fell into a 20-5 hole.

Thirteen first-half turnovers didn’t help, either.

Junior guard Emily Carter led the Frogs with a season-high 18 points, including four-of-six shooting from three-point range.

Notes: Kansas and TCU have never met in women’s basketball. … KU forward Aishah Sutherland is shooting a torrid 73.2 percent (30 of 42). … The Frogs’ other loss was to Oklahoma. … After the Bahamas trip, the Jayhawks will be idle until they entertain UCLA on Thursday.
