Air National Guard 2nd Lt. Jason L. Riggs has graduated from 52-week Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. The student earned silver wings with an aeronautical rating of pilot in the Air Force.

Student pilots receive primary training in T-37 Tweet aircraft to learn flight characteristics, emergency procedures, takeoff and landing procedures, aerobatics, and formation flying. Students also practice night, instrument and cross-country navigation. After primary training, students move on to advanced training in fighter-bombers, airlift-tankers, multi-engine turboprops, or helicopters.

Riggs’ new assignment will be with the 182nd Airlift Wing, based in Peoria, Ill. He has two years of military service.

Riggs is a 1997 graduate of De Soto High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Mid America Nazarene University in 2005. He is the son of Larry and Donna Riggs, De Soto.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Chase W. Bryan graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Bryan earned distinction as an honor graduate of the course.

The airman is the son of Lana Pierce, Wichita, and Don Bryan, Lawrence.

Army Reserve Spec. Ian W. Staples has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Staples is a 2003 graduate of Free State School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas University in 2007. He is the son of William Staples, Lawrence, and Carol Warren, Coronado, Calif.
