A Kansas University professor will give a talk next week on scientists’ efforts to create a comprehensive list of all life in the Earth’s oceans.
Daphne Fautin, Kansas University professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, will give a presentation on the “Census of Marine Life” for the Natural History Museum’s Wild Science lecture series. The event is at 7 p.m Dec. 2 at the museum.
Fautin is one of 2,000 scientists in 70 countries working to create the list of life in the oceans. One of the most interesting findings for her, Fautin said, is all of the new species the census is discovering.
The results of the census, begun in 2001, will be released next year, and will show the diversity and distribution of marine life, including threatened or endangered populations.
