Independence Inc. has received a grant for $18,145 from the Sunflower Foundation Capacity Building Grants to purchase and install a new telephone system.

Independence Inc., a nonprofit organization, was established in 1978 and serves as a resource in Lawrence and northeast Kansas in providing advocacy, services and education for people with disabilities and for the community.

As an Independent Living Center, Independence Inc. works with people with varying disabilities to live in the environments of their choice and have fulfilling lives.

The mission of Sunflower Foundation: Health Care for Kansans is to serve as a catalyst for improving the health of Kansans.

The foundation concentrates on health care access, healthy behaviors and prevention, and advocacy.
