From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 12, 1909: Chancellor Frank Strong of the university was a featured speaker at the annual fall inaugural ceremonies for the Kansas State Agricultural College and promised to help the fellow school in any way possible. He stressed that cooperation between the two schools will be of great benefit to both and he asked that there be consideration of faculty exchanges from year to year. . . . There have been repeated robbery attempts here and many are uneasy that the holdup man may wound or kill some victim. He fired on an auto party just north of town last night when their auto refused to stop. There is no indication of his identity but the community is on edge in view of recent robberies and burglaries and the shooting of a university student in South Park. . . . The state supreme court last Saturday handed down an opinion that may affect the collection of poll taxes and road taxes in this city and many others in the state. The city of Iola had filed a suit calling such collections illegal and the court seems likely to uphold that view.
