Former Topeka mayor still wants teaching license

? Former Topeka Mayor Doug Wright, who went to prison for felony theft, is asking the Kansas State Board of Education to grant him a teacher’s license.

The board turned down Wright’s request for a license in May, prompting him to file a lawsuit. In March, a Shawnee County judge expunged Wright’s convictions from his record and sent his request for a license back to the board.

On Tuesday, Wright asked the board to reconsider its earlier decision.

Wright served 10 months in jail for four felony thefts and perjury. He repaid the thefts before he was charged.

The board took no action on Wright’s request Tuesday and will discuss it at a future meeting.
