Lawrence man charged in robbery attempt last August at mobile home

Charges have been filed against a man who was shot during a robbery attempt in August at a south Lawrence mobile home, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Louis Galloway Jr., 19, Lawrence, is charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated robbery, both felonies.

Galloway and a 20-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man were seriously injured when they were shot by a man they allegedly were trying to rob Aug. 26 at Easy Living mobile home park, 3323 Iowa, police said. Both robbery suspects were taken by air ambulance to a Kansas City-area hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later released.

The 24-year-old robbery victim was not arrested or charged.

Prosecutors have not announced charges against any other suspects involved in the robbery attempt. A police report, however, indicates five people — including four acquaintances of the victim — may have been involved.

According to Douglas County District Court records, prosecutors claim Galloway went to the suspect’s home “carrying a large wooden stick” and went to the home with the intent to commit robbery, “but failed … or was prevented or intercepted in executing” the crime.

Galloway has a brief court appearance scheduled for this afternoon.
