Green pours in 17 in Colo. St. debut

In his first game as a Colorado State University men’s basketball player, 2009 Lawrence High graduate Dorian Green picked up where he left off.

Green, who averaged 26.2 points per game as a senior at LHS, scored 17 points and added six rebounds in the Rams’ 74-65 exhibition victory against Regis on Tuesday.

Green shot 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and added two assists in 28 minutes. In addition to drawing praise from CSU coach Tim Miles, Green also made a favorable impression on longtime Regis coach Lonnie Porter.

“The kid shoots the lights out of it,” Porter said. “He’s going to be a player. He’s a gritty, hard-nosed kid, and he doesn’t back down.”

CSU will close the exhibition portion of its schedule Saturday at home against Western State and will open the regular season Nov. 13 vs. UC-Davis in the Basketball Traveler’s Tipoff Tournament in Eugene, Ore.
