From the Lawrence Daily World for May 23, 1909: “Eighty-six Douglas County boys and girls will be happy tonight when they get certificates that show they are successful graduates of county schools. Commencement exercises are planed for June 24. … Mrs. C.C. Goddard, state president of the Federation of Clubs, will address local women tonight at the old Methodist church. She will stress the need to combat tuberculosis and Dr. Samuel Crumbine, state health office, will also attend and speak.”
