University Bridge Club announce results of its May 16 meeting, with hosts Karmie and Edna Galle and Marc and Cora Kuepker.

Blue winners were Alice Akin, first; Ray Ikenberry, second; Harold Riehm, third; Steven Bogler, fourth; and Mary Gaumer, fifth.

Pink winners were Isabelle Schaake, first; Myrna Ikenberry, second; Marj Derusseau, third; Mary Jo Spotts, fourth; and Bebe Huxtable, fifth.

Over the Rainbow Doll Club met May 14 at the home of Brenda Owens. Vera Piersee gave a lesson on Frozen Charlottes and Charlies, and members brought Frozen Charlottes or Charlies and penny dolls to share with members and visitors. Members will help with the 2010 National Convention fundraiser for the UFDC Region IV doll which is a Vintage Ideal Toni by creating a wardrobe for the doll for a specific month/theme.


The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the America Revolution met May 16 at Alvamar Country Club. Shirley Coupal, the Kansas state regent attended the meeting and luncheon and gave a program about the Santa Fe trail markers. Many awards were given out including a certificate for Amanda Morris, sixth-grade winner of the American History Essay Contest, who placed second in the state. It was also announced dues are $44.25. The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 13 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Harry Shaffer and Bobby Patton, first in A and B; Patricia Lechtenberg and Chris Lane, second in A and B; Suzanne Wassmer and Wanda Durbin, third in A; Nita Scales and Lester Dalton, third in B; and Earle Core and Albert Ballard, first in C.

East-West winners were Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel, first in A, B and C; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, second in A; Shirley Reese and Lois Clark, third in A and second in B; and Jack Flickinger and Jean Khatib, third in B and second in C.


The Thursday Morning Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 14 utilized an individual movement and was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Earle Core, first; Virginia Seaver, second; Jana Goodman tied in third with Barbara McCorkle and Chris Lane; Jean Khatib, sixth; and Angie Davidson, seventh.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 15 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Bebe Huxtable and Janice Hollowell, first in A, B and C; Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui, second in A and B; Nathan Roser and Jeremy Martin, third in A and B, and second in C; and Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges, fourth in A and B.

East-West winners were Paul Heitzman and David Piro, first in A; Jim Stewart and Vince Nordberg, second in A, and first in B and C; Eldon Herd and Bobby Patton, third in A and second in B; and Lois Clark and Betty Collier, fourth in A, third in B and second in C.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 18 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Vince Nordberg and Jim Stewart, first in A, B and C; Kent McCullough and John Fittell, second in A and B; Carl Mibeck and Jack Mibeck, third in A and second in C; and Chris Lane and Lois Jones, fourth in A.

East-West winners were Donna Johnson and James Masilamani, first in A; David Piro and Brian Barrett, second in A; Lois Clark and Jerry Sloan, third in A; Dave Chipman and Brad Ellis, fourth in A; and Jeff Mermain and Hailong Dao, first in B and C.
