Jan Kuyper Erland, Lawrence, received an award for Outstanding Achievement for Literacy Promotion community service in Lawrence from the state regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution at a luncheon meeting and awards ceremony May 16 at Alvamar Country Club.

Kuyper Erland has placed volunteer tutors in classrooms at Prairie Park School since 2007. She is the executive director of the nonprofit literacy organization Innovative Learning Systems, and educational consultant with Mem-ExSpan Inc., which are both partnered with the Lawrence Schools Foundation. Various local groups furnished tutors, including the DAR, Kansas University students and the Delta Delta Delta social sorority chapter house.
