Babies could lead their own Pilates classes

I could not write fast enough to keep up with the action. My hand started to hurt, and my penmanship was atrocious. I would have to rewrite or type it up later so my professor would be able to read it. But for now, I just needed to get it all down and, to be honest, I hadn’t expected to need to hustle like this, or I might have bothered to find a better pen.

The assignment was for my Early Childhood Education class. Each student was to observe an infant for 10 minutes and record the action. I guess I had the idea that babies didn’t really DO much. I mean, they give the impression that they just eat, sleep and lay around all day. Boy, was I wrong! It was a relief when the timer went off. Babies are busy little people.

I was telling a friend of mine about this experience, and she shared a story with me about a friend of hers. This man was an accomplished triathlete, so obviously he was in great shape. He was also the proud papa of a new baby boy. He noticed how much his son moved about, and so one day he decided that he would follow along with him. It was sort of a baby-taught Pilates class. Well, after less than 30 minutes, he could not keep up with the 3-month-old! It took too much core strength.

So, to all those infants out there, high-five! You (literally) rock!
