The Pilot Club will meet for dinner and the installation of new officers for 2009-2010 at 6 p.m. Monday at Stone Creek Restaurant, 3801 W. Sixth St. Officers are Inez Crawford, president; Tricia Boyd, president-elect; Lareeda Hickey, secretary; and Marilyn Bristol, treasurer.


University Bridge Club announces results for its May 2 meeting, with hosts Walt and Jo Anne Hicks and George and Ailene Bocquin.

Blue winners were John Golden, first; John Stark, second; George Bocquin, third; Bonnie Haney, fourth; and Bebe Huxtable, fifth.

Pink winners were Jane Golden, first; Edna Galle, second; Wanda Kring, third; Carolyn Harden, fourth; and Ailene Bocquin, fifth.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on April 29 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Harry Shaffer and Eleanor Patton, first in A and B; Lester Dalton and Lois Clark, second in A and B; Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier, third in A and B; and Earle Core and Albert Ballard, fourth in A and first in C.

East-West winners were Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, first in A and B; Paul Heitzman and David Piro, second in A; Yvonne Hedges and Sally Taylor, third in A and second in B; Madelyn Jenks and Virginia Seaver, fourth in A; and Gary Joyce and Ann Thompson, third in B and first in C.


The Thursday Morning Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on April 30 utilized an individual movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver. Winners tying in first were Barbara McCorkle with Jack Flickinger; Patricia Lechtenberg, third; and Chuck Hedges tied in fourth with Dick Shaffer, Virginia Seaver and Arkie Vaughn.


The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 1 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Mary Fenlon and Lester Dalton, first in A; Ed Howard and James Gunn, second in A; Janice Hollowell and Jean Otney, third in A, and first in B and C; and Wanda Durbin and Steven Vossler tied in fourth in A with Madelyn Jenks and Barbara Bell.

East-West winners were Larry Weatherholt and John Turner, first in A; Grant Sutton and Betty Collier, second in A and first in B; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, third in A; Sally Taylor and Virginia Seaver, fourth in A; Clarice Broz and Marilyn Martin, second in B and first in C; Debbie Bettinger and Shari Krentzel, third in B; and Virginia Johnston and Barbara McCorkle, second in C.


The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on May 4 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were James Masilamani and Peter Petillo, first in A; Harry Shaffer and Terry Tolar, second in A and first in B; Carl Mibeck and Jack Mibeck, third in A, second in B, and first in C; Lois Jones and Vince Nordberg, fourth in A; and Adelaide Nyquist and John Fittell, second in C.

East-West winners were Ed Howard and Steven Vossler, first in A; Craig Huneke and Jeremy Martin, second in A, and first in B and C; Dave Chipman and Brad Ellis, third in A; Brian Barrett and David Piro, fourth in A; and Lois Clark and Bobby Patton, second in B and C.


The Kaw Valley Corral of the Westerners met for a dinner meeting April 14, with guest speaker Kevin Willmott, assistant professor of film at Kansas University. Willmott spoke about Community Filmmaking. His film, “The Only Good Indian,” will likely appear at Liberty Hall sometime this fall.

The club’s next dinner meeting will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Center at Brandon Woods, 4730 Brandon Woods Terrace. The guest speaker will be Betty Laird, whose topic is “That All Our Swain Command Her.” Laird will talk about Elizabeth Perkins Leonard, the first full-time woman professor at KU. The question for the evening will be, “How many professors taught at KU the first year it opened?”
