LHS track meet canceled for Friday

Topeka West Relays canceled; no make-up date has been set

The Lawrence High track and field team will have to wait a few days longer than expected to open the 2009 season.

The Topeka West Relays, originally scheduled for Friday at Topeka’s Hummer Sports Park, have been canceled, school officials announced today. No reason for the cancellation was given, although much of northeast Kansas has been included in a winter storm watch which runs from Friday evening through Saturday evening.

No make-up date has been set.

Free State High is set to open its track season at home on Friday.

Other local sporting events scheduled for Friday that could be impacted by the weather include: Free State girls soccer playing host to Lansing High at 4 p.m.; Lawrence High baseball playing at 5 p.m. at Shawnee Heights; and a KU football open practice scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
