Lawrence man convicted of breaking into apartment, robbing tenants

A Douglas County jury has convicted a Lawrence man of breaking into an apartment and robbing the tenants inside at gunpoint.

Jurors deliberated for about an hour and a half on Thursday before finding 20-year-old Lee Andrew Mitchell-Pennington guilty of three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary.

The defendant was one of several men who forced his way into an apartment in the 2400 block of Alabama during the early-morning hours of Oct. 5.

Prosecutors said the group stole a number of items from the apartment, including laptops, cell phones and X-Box video game systems, and then threatened to shoot the victims if they called police.

Mitchell-Pennington is scheduled to be sentenced April 20.
