Lawrence to host basketball tournament

Lawrence will be host to the Best of the Midwest Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The tournament, a United States Specialty Sports Association-sanctioned event, will bring 125 teams of players from around the Midwest to Lawrence for the weekend.

The event’s opening ceremonies will be Friday evening at Haskell Indian Nations University’s Coffin Complex, with Bud Stallworth as the keynote speaker. Games will be played at Coffin Complex, Kansas University’s Robinson Center and Student Recreation Fitness Center and USD 497 venues. In addition to the tournament games, players will compete in a skills competition.

The games are open to the public. Cost per day is $6 for adults; $3 for children 6-12; and free for children under 5. A tournament schedule is available at playmsp.com/basketball_bestofmidwest.aspx.
