Four KU students nominated for Goldwater scholarships

Four Kansas University students have been nominated for undergraduate Barry M. Goldwater scholarships, which honor excellence in science, engineering and mathematics.

The 2009 nominees for KU are: Brandon DeKosky, Overland Park; Rebecca Marie Getman, from Chesterfield, Mo.; Christopher Blake Martin, from Manhattan; and Richard Z. Robinson, from Garnett.

DeKosky, Getman and Robinson expect to graduate in 2010 and would be eligible for one year of support for up to $7,500 for tuition, fees, books and room and board. Martin expects to graduate in 2011 and would be eligible for two years of support.

Martin worked in Switzerland with physicists and mathematicians on research related to the Large Hadron Collider. Robinson traveled to Chicago to work in Fermilab. DeKosky is working with chemical engineers on tissue regeneration, and Getman is working with researchers on HIV/AIDS drug development.
