The Lawrence and Douglas County League of Women Voters is accepting nominations for the Helen Fluker Open and Accessible Government Award.

Any county resident can submit a nomination. A nominee should be a county resident over the age of 18 whose efforts may have promoted improvement in government.

This year the nominee’s activities can be volunteer or an extension or responsibility of their job. Nominations submitted in the last two years also will be considered.

Nominations may be submitted by e-mail to league@sunflower.com, or by sending them to League of Women Voters, P.O. Box 1072, Lawrence, KS 66044. The deadline is Thursday.

The 2008 award went to state Sen. Marci Francisco, D-Lawrence.
