Radio club exercise set for weekend

Members of the Douglas County Amateur Radio Club will take part in a nationwide exercise June 27-28 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The nationwide simulation event organized by the American Radio Relay League is designed to prepare local amateur radio operators in communicating during emergencies and natural disasters when cell phone towers and phone lines aren’t working.

Local operators will compete against others in the region and across the nation in making contacts by radio using a variety of antennas and other emergency communication equipment.

The event starts at 1 p.m. June 27 and runs through 4 p.m. June 28 in Building 1 at the fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

The public is invited to attend and they will have the opportunity to speak with local amateur operators and try out the equipment.
