A number of burglaries and thefts have occurred this month at Kansas University’s Art and Design Building, in which more than $5,000 worth of items were reported stolen, police said.

Items valued at about $4,000 were taken during the most recent break-in and theft, reported to KU police Monday morning. Police said two Cannon camcorders, a MacBook and Sony laptop computers, and a digital clock were removed from an office in the building, 1467 Jayhawk Blvd. The theft reportedly occurred between 4 a.m. Saturday and 5:30 a.m. Monday.

In a crime reported June 18, a $300 Bose iPod speaker and docking station was removed from a locked office in the building. The theft and break-in reportedly occurred between 3:30 a.m. June 10 and 1 p.m. June 16.

Police reports also said sometime between June 12 and June 15 items valued at $885 were reported stolen from a locked office.

KU Public Safety Office Capt. Schuyler Bailey said the crimes may or may not be connected. No suspects have been arrested in the cases.

Police at KU also say 11 bicycles and a micro scooter have gone missing from the area of the Housing Maintenance Shop, 2303 Bob Billings Parkway. The items, valued at $3,300, were reportedly stolen between 4:30 p.m. June 1 and 10 a.m. June 3.

Officers arrested two McLouth men on June 5, for cutting free and stealing nine bikes from the shop. Police made the arrest after a routine traffic stop, when they said they discovered the bikes, valued at $1,375, in the bed of the truck the suspects were in.

Police said the driver and his friend confessed to the theft and criminal damage to property.

Dustin Rainey and Ryan Saxton have both been charged with the crimes. They were released from jail on $1,750 bond each, pending a July 16 court hearing.
