Law enforcement report

• A Douglas County District Court judge has determined there is enough evidence for a Lawrence woman to stand trial on charges of raping her 4-year-old son.

Amy Rhoads, a juvenile investigator with the Lawrence Police Department, testified during a preliminary hearing Tuesday that the woman twice confessed to committing the crime. Rhoads told the judge the woman admitted she sexually abused the boy in April while she was under the influence of alcohol.

The woman is in custody at the Douglas County Jail.

Judge Robert Fairchild scheduled an arraignment for July 21.

It is a policy of the Journal-World not to name suspects charged with sex crimes unless there is a conviction.
