Clint Pinnick — senior Lawrence High

The Lions senior third baseman led the team in RBIs (20) and was third in total hits (24) while batting .343 for the season.

In addition, Pinnick pounded two doubles, two home runs and scored seven runs in helping lead the Lions to the Class 6A state championship.

Aaron Rea — senior Lawrence High

Rea was not the Sunflower League’s player of the year for no reason.

In addition to leading the Lions in average (.433), hits (29), runs scored (28) and stolen bases (17), he was tied for the lead in home runs, with four, and finished with a .553 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .650.

Dorian Green – senior Lawrence High

Although Green had a solid season at the plate — batting more than 40 points higher than a season ago — the senior outfielder/pitcher was most valuable to the Lions on the mound. In 10 games, he finished with a 4-0 record and an earned-run-average of 0.81. He tied for the team lead in complete games (3), was third in strikeouts (34) and picked up the win in the state semis.

Albert Minnis – junior Lawrence High

The junior southpaw was 7-0 in 11 appearances. He led the team in strikeouts (73), was tops in ERA (0.59) and tied for the team lead in complete games and innings pitched. Minnis also hit cleanup for the Lions and played the outfield during games he did not pitch. His most memorable offensive day came in the state tournament when he hit two home runs and recorded 6 RBIs in a 17-0 victory against Blue Valley, a game in which he also was the winning pitcher.

Ryan Scott – junior Free State

A year after holding down the closer’s role for the Firebirds, Scott emerged as a dominant starter in 2009. He led Free State in victories (7), innings pitched (52.2) and strikeouts (61) and still managed to pick up three saves. At the plate, the part-time third baseman hit .364 with 12 RBIs.

Cody Kukuk – sophomore Free State

Kukuk is a two-time all-area selection, who led the Firebids with a .422 batting average, two homers and 14 RBIs. While the sophomore was effective at the plate, he was even better on the mound, finishing the season with three wins, three saves and a 0.96 ERA.

Kyle Pattrick – sophomore Baldwin High

The Baldwin High second baseman had one of the best all-around statistical seasons in the area. At the plate Pattrick hit .531 with four home runs and four doubles and had a slugging percentage of .857. He also extended his hitting streak to 27 games, dating back to his freshman season. In the field his fielding percentage was flawless as he had 18 putouts and 57 assists in 75 attempts.

Craig Harper – senior Eudora High

Harper was a dual threat for the Cardinals this season, finishing with a 6-1 record and 1.38 ERA on the mound and a .313 batting average with five RBIs and 4 stolen bases on offense. Harper finished with 44 strikeouts.

Corbin Goedert — junior Ottawa High

The junior shortstop started every game for the Cyclones this season. He hit .418 with four doubles, one triple and two home runs and also scored 13 runs and drove in 17. In addition, he struck out just six times all season in helping lead Ottawa to a 17-5 season and a berth in the state tournament.

Jake Moore — senior Ottawa High

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Moore finished the season with a 8-0 record on the mound and was among the league leaders in several pitching categories. In addition, he tossed 43.1 innings, recorded 71 strikeouts — against just 14 walks — and surrendered just 20 hits and 13 earned runs.
