Teen charged with Bible, vodka thefts

An 18-year-old Wichita man faces 18 theft and burglary charges in Douglas County District Court, accused of breaking into multiple homes and cars in Lawrence and stealing miscellaneous items, including vodka and a Bible.

An Aug. 5 preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jonathan Platt on Wednesday. Platt was arrested June 9 after a string of three home and 12 car burglaries in northwest Lawrence, near Sixth Street and Queens Road, police said.

The suspect was located in a car with about $3,000 in stolen property, police said. Prosecutors accuse the man of stealing items, including a watch, an iPod, two GPS devices, a DVD player and a pair of sunglasses. The man is also accused of stealing a Bible and papers from one person’s car and vodka from a home in the 5200 block of Eisenhower Terrace, court records said.
