Eight Kansas University students or recent graduates have earned awards for research and study abroad in the coming academic year, including six Fulbright awards.

One 2009 graduate, Andreas Teschner Graf, from Mission Woods, received a German Academic Exchange Service Study Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in international relations.

Brett Richard Chloupek, a doctoral student from Harvard, Neb., received a Boren Graduate Fellowship supporting his research on Roman Catholic adherence.

Fulbright awards went to these six students and graduates: Hilary Brooke Hungerford, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Ashley J. Elston, from Ames, Iowa; Robert J. Gordy, from Omaha, Neb.; Mariam Ayesha Papa, from Leawood; Sidney Eric Dement, from Overland Park; and Kate Marie Mallula, from Roeland Park.

Since the program’s inception in 1946, 407 KU students have received Fulbright scholarships offering opportunities to study, conduct research or teach in other nations.
