Judge holds hearing on card game

? A Kansas judge has been asked to decide whether a card game known as “Kandu Challenge” is a game of skill or chance.

The state attorney general’s office contends Kandu Challenge is a thinly veiled illegal poker game and ordered Highlands Gastropub and Cardroom in Wichita to stop running and advertising games. But the business and the game’s inventor claim it’s a game of skill.

Sedgwick County District Judge Timothy Lahey will resume hearing testimony on the question today as he considers the Highlands’ request for a temporary injunction to allow it to continue offering the game.

State attorneys argue Kandu Challenge is just Texas Hold’em poker with a different name, a different terminology and a few meaningless rule modifications.
