Gov. Mark Parkinson re-appointed three members to the Kansas Board of Regents on Monday, and made other appointments involving Lawrence residents.

Christine Downey-Schmidt of Inman, Dan Lykins of Topeka, and Juana “Janie” Perkins of Garden City will all serve their second four-year terms on the nine-member Board of Regents that oversees higher education in the state.

In other governmental appointments Monday, Parkinson named Jennifer Roth of Lawrence to the Kansas Sentencing Commission. Roth currently works as an assistant public defender for the Third Judicial District Public Defender’s Office.

The Kansas Sentencing Commission develops post-implementation monitoring procedures and reporting methods to evaluate guideline sentences.

Parkinson also appointed Lawrence resident Richard Averill to the Kansas Film Commission. He is the drama and film program director for the Lawrence Arts Center. The governor also re-appointed Scott Richardson of Lawrence to the board.

The Kansas Film Commission serves a liaison for filming projects in the state with local, state and federal agencies and private citizens.
