Defense dooms Raiders

? The Lawrence Raiders legion baseball team dropped a pair of contests in the Wichita State tournament on Saturday.

The Raiders lost, 4-3, to the Wichita Reds, and then fell, 5-3, to the K.C. Bullets. Lawrence will not face anyone in the tournament today.

“I felt like we pitched pretty well, but the big problem was defense,” Raiders coach Wilson Kilmer said. “That’s been something that’s plagued us. Out of pitching, defense and hitting, I feel pretty good about two of those three. We need to get better in the field.”

The Raiders dropped to 13-22 on the season. Lawrence will play next at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against the Topeka Capitals. The game was originally supposed to be a doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
